2009 Board of Health Annual Report

2009 was another busy year for the Board of Health.  With the threat of an H1N1 flu pandemic, lots of services were put into high gear.  We found ourselves attending meetings in Montague, Athol, and beyond to plan for the distribution of flu vaccines as they became available.

As flu season came upon us, we participated in five emergency dispensing site clinics for the flu vaccinations.

Board members continue to attend training supported by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Mass DEP.  This training helps the board members keep up to date with current issues and concerns in the field of public health.

Our Health Agent, Elizabeth (Wibby) Swedberg, continues to be a great asset to the Board.  As the full time agent for the Town of Westminster, she is kept fully informed of current “hot items” for Boards of Health.

With Wibby’s help, we made the required food service, camp, and mobile home park inspections.  She also did several septic/Title V inspections.

Our clerk, Mary Gifford, was away from us for a while this past year addressing some health issues of her own.  She has been back for several months, and we hope and pray that the doctors were able to do their job and that she will not have any relapses.

Respectfully Submitted,

Harry Williston, Chair
