COVID-19 Delta variant: This variant now accounts for over 25% of all new cases found in the United States, and has been found in every state. It is spreading rapidly, mainly in regions with low percentages of vaccinated people. It is very transmissible and results in higher rates of hospitalizations. The more people are infected with the variant, the more likely it is to mutate, possibly into a form that will not be affected by current vaccines. If you are not vaccinated, please consider getting one of the vaccines as soon as possible. Remember that children younger than 12 do not yet have an approved vaccine available for them. Their best protection is for others in their family and those with whom they have frequent contact to be vaccinated. Children can and do contract COVID-19. Please protect our vulnerable youngsters by getting your shots. You may also want to continue wearing masks in public indoor spaces, since we don’t know who is vaccinated and who is not.
