Mending Circle/ Fiber Night

Join us in the Herrick room to work on any hand fiber projects you have!  Mending, sewing, knitting/crochet, weaving… you get the idea.  Some supplies available including needles, thread, and knitting help.

No meeting this month on the 4th Thursday (May 23) because of the Swift River Spring Concert.

Monadnock Falconry Bird-of-Prey Demonstration

Sunday May 19, 2 p.m. at the Swift River School Athletic field.

Funded by the Friends of the Wendell Free Library. Monadnock Falconry offers the chance for nature enthusiasts of all ages to imagine life as a bird of prey! We are devoted to environmental education through first-hand experience of these amazing creatures rarely encountered up close in the wild. The hour-long program gives the opportunity to meet a Harris’ Hawk and see it on the wing, while answering all your questions about their life histories and relation to their human handlers. The program is free open to all, including those with disabilities. 2 p.m. *In the chance of rain, this program will be rescheduled for Saturday June 1 at 2 p.m..

Cathy Stanton- Local Author Book Event

Come hear from Wendell’s own Cathy Stanton about her book “Food Margins: Lessons from an Unlikely Grocer”.

“Food Margins tells the story of a small food co-op in Orange, Massachusetts, a former mill town searching for its place in the 21st century economy.  Part memoir and part history lesson, the book traces the tangled economic and political histories of the plantation, the factory, and the supermarket through the life of one New England town and tells the story of a rural community imagining and creating a viable alternative to the mainstream in a time of increasingly urgent need to build a more socially and ecologically just food system”

Cathy Stanton is Distinguished Senior Lecturer in Anthropology and Environmental Studies at Tufts University. She has written widely about industrial and agricultural history and historic sites in the American northeast, none of which prepared her for the challenges of actually trying to stay afloat in the grocery business.

May 4 & 18: Cute little gnomes & their fancy gnome homes with corks, felt, large paper cups, markers, buttons, stickers & lots of imagination.

May 11 & 25. Painted rock and beaded wire photo holders + a photo of you printed with the library mini photo printer to give to someone special (parent’s days upcoming!).
