Please join us to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Day on Mon. Jan. 19 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Wendell Town Hall.
We will honor the birthday of Dr. King with story, music & dance with special artists Abdou Sarr, Moonlight & Morning Star, and the Wendell Community Chorus!
All ages welcome and encouraged to attend this celebration, focused on Dr. King’s message of joy and community resilience and unity.
The event is free, supported in part by the Wendell Cultural Council, with donations most welcome.
We are so lucky to be graced by the duo Moonlight & Morning Star, sharing uplifting music, including rousing songs with the Wendell Community Chorus!
Moonlight & Morningstar will transport you with their soaring voices, conveying their deep reverence & commitment to social justice.
Abdou Sarr will drum and lead a lesson in Senegalese dance.
Dance participation is optional and no experience is required. Abdou makes it fun for everyone who wants to try it out. Chairs will also be arranged for the option of observing the beautiful dance.
Abdou is an amazing and inspiring teacher, originally from Senegal, who has been dancing his entire life, carrying on the legacy of his mother. He has held dance & drumming residences in schools regionally for twenty five years.
We will also be honoring the Martin Luther King speech, “I Have a Dream”, by sharing the art-picture book by Kadir Nelson as a community read-aloud.
Hope to see you there and celebrate the life and teaching of Dr. King and our rich collective cultural heritage together.
This program is sponsored by the Wendell Free Library and supported in part by a grant from the Wendell Cultural Council.
