Wendell residents are advised that Mormon Hollow Road will be closed to through traffic as of Monday July 25th, near the Diemand Farm at 126 Mormon Hollow Road. This road closing is required for a major culvert replacement that is over 30 feet in the ground and over 60 feet in length; it will require that the road may possibly be closed for as long as three months.
The Wendell Road Commission understands that this road closing will be a significant difficulty for folks who use that road regularly, especially involving access to the Diemand Farm. This repair has been in the works for several years due to the deteriorated condition of the steel culvert and the gradual collapse of the embankment. The project was engineered in 2019 and on hold while the town put aside the necessary funds. The Road Commission has been concerned that the culvert would collapse unexpectedly, perhaps due to heavy rains or continued corrosion. If that had happened, without plans and contracts in place, the road would have been closed much longer.
Anyone wanting to access the Diemand farm will need to get there by way of Farley Road, from either the easterly end of Farley Road at Wendell Depot Road or the westerly end of Farley Road via Route 2 and Bridge Street. The Town regrets the inconvenience this closure will cause and thanks everyone for their patience.
