Wendell is a part of the Wendell-New Salem school district, which encompasses Swift River School. The Erving School Union #28 provides an administrative framework to Wendell, New Salem, Erving, Leverett, and Shutesbury. Wendell is also part of the Mahar Regional School District, which also includes New Salem, Orange, and Petersham, and encompasses Mahar Regional High School.
The role of the Wendell School Committee is to oversee local schools, ensuring that our children receive a quality education that is conducive with learning, provides quality curriculum, and fosters community involvement. The five member school committee consists of three voting members and two alternates, as well as a representative to the Mahar Regional School District. Additionally, three members, two voting members and an alternate, are representatives to the Union 28 Joint Supervisory Committee. The committee also meets jointly with the New Salem School Committee, forming the joint New Salem-Wendell School Committee, which consists of six voting members, three from each town, and four alternates, two from each town.
